Public Health

Coordinated School Health

The goal of school health is to promote and maintain the physical, mental and social health of students and school staff. Our coordinated program utilizes personnel, agencies and programs both in and out of the school building that relate to student health and success in school. Specifically, registered nurses and trained health aides provide services in the following areas:

  • Prevention of health problems and promote health by assessing student health status, providing services for students with special health needs, emergency care ensuring access to health care and identifying and managing barriers to learning.
  • Nurses work in collaboration with school staff to provide and support health education, health promotion programs for faculty and staff, identify student psycho social problems and provide input, intervention and referral, ensure a healthy school environment, contribute to and support school nutrition services as well as the physical education programs.
  • The school RN also takes a leadership role in collaborating with community agencies to identify and provide programs to meet the physical and mental health needs of children and families.

We provide school health services for Hayden, South Routt, Steamboat Springs and Jackson County schools.
